Are you looking for additional information about our School? Here you’ll find a list of our most common questions. If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for, let us know and we’ll get back to you shortly.

The Hitchin School of Russian Ballet hold classes at Hitchin Boys’ School Sports Centre.

What age can my child join the school?

We take girls and boys from age 4 .5 years.

Do you have a waiting list?

Yes, we have a waiting list for some of our classes.

Do you offer trial classes?

Yes, we offer a two-week paid trial before enrolling at the school

We will then send an invoice for the remainder of the term. Fees are paid termly in advance after this.

When will the next trial classes take place?

Trials  usually take place during the first two weeks of term.

Clothing

There is no need to go to the expense of buying the uniform for trial classes. Children can wear anything comfortable in which they can move freely; leggings and T-shirt and soft shoes or bare feet would be ideal. Hair should be tied back away from the face. After enrollment uniform will be required.

Adult dancers are not required to wear uniform, but  wear clothing suitable for exercise.

The Dance Shop, Bancroft, Hitchin have a list of all our uniform requirements.  Girls’ hair to be secured back in a ballet bun or similar, depending on hair type.

How do we allocate places?

Places are generally offered in strict order of when a request is received. However, in order to keep our classes balanced we also consider other factors, including:

  • Age – Our classes need to maintain a good balance of ages.

  • Experience

Do you hold exam sessions?

We hold 3 exam sessions a year with the NATD (The National Association of Teachers of Dancing) The Classic Ballet branch provides a syllabus following the Russian style of ballet training.  NATD Contemporary syllabus was the first awarding organisation to offer a graded syllabus.  It is not compulsory to take exams. Although we gently encourage the children to work towards the exams, some children may not wish to.
As long as they have covered all the syllabus work to a certain standard in class and feel happy and confident to progress to the next level with their classmates then this is absolutely fine.

Can I watch my child’s class?

Parents are invited to come to watch their child’s class at certain times during the academic year,  when the class groups can display their syllabus work, dances and choreography. Newsletters are sent out with all up and coming events such as exams, shows and parents days.
